Michael Ziegler is a German accordionist, composer, and music educator who performs under the name Ziggi Accordion. His work brings together classical repertoire, pop arrangements, original compositions, and loop-based performances that build multiple layers of sound around one instrument.

His documented career stretches from youth competitions in Baden-Württemberg to international awards, conservatory training, and the release of his debut album, Zeitlos, in 2026. Accounts from his early musical years also reveal a consistent ambition: to show audiences how much the accordion can do beyond its familiar traditional settings.

Starting the Accordion and Developing in Reilingen

Ziegler began playing the accordion at nine. In a personal blog entry dated December 30, 2019, he described himself as an 18-year-old musician and music student, providing a dated account of his early development.

He initially played the standard-bass system and began learning melody bass at 17. That change expanded the musical possibilities available to him as he developed a repertoire that included classical, jazz, contemporary, and entertainment music.

His early progress is also documented by the Hohner-Akkordeon-Orchester Reilingen. The organization’s 2017 account places him among young musicians receiving instruction under Johannes Grebencikov and pursuing the music-focused program at Gauß-Gymnasium.

Competition results soon gave his training a public measure. The Reilingen organization reported that he received the Baden-Württemberg youth champion title at the state music event in October 2016.

In July 2017, he added the regional youth champion title at a competition in Mannheim-Friedrichsfeld. He also won the duet category for ages 16–19 with Jana Hein, a musician from the neighboring Akkordeon im Quadrat organization.

These records establish his connection to Reilingen and its musical community. They do not establish his exact birthplace or provide a detailed account of his household during childhood.

Turning a Teenage Interest Into a Career

According to Ziegler’s 2019 account, competition successes and the 2016 state championship helped persuade him to pursue music professionally. He also wrote that some people questioned that decision, although he did not identify them or describe a specific family dispute.

By then, his musical activities already extended beyond his local community. He listed experiences in Switzerland, Italy, Austria, China, the Czech Republic, and Germany during 2019.

The activities differed by destination. Switzerland involved a concert trip, while Italy combined concerts with a masterclass. He identified competitions in China and the Czech Republic, along with concerts, conducting, and guest appearances in Germany.

An important performance followed on March 7, 2020. Ziegler presented what he described as his first full solo concert at the water tower in Hockenheim, using a program whose title translates as “From the Baroque to the Modern.”

His account described a roughly 90-minute concert in a room arranged for approximately 80 people, with nearly every seat occupied. The program included Pachelbel, Handel, Vagn Holmboe, Franck Angelis, and Isaac Albéniz.

That concert also connected his newer work with an earlier milestone. He recalled having played a Wilhelm Bernau suite during his first solo appearance at a Reilingen annual concert seven years before.

The distinction matters: the Hockenheim event was his first full solo concert, rather than his first time performing alone before an audience.

Musical Studies in Bremen and Trossingen

Ziegler’s professional training includes study at the University of the Arts Bremen, according to his official teaching profile. The same profile identifies subsequent studies at Hohner Conservatory in Trossingen, with an emphasis on pedagogy.

Institutional reporting independently confirms his connection to Hohner Conservatory. In December 2024, the school identified him as a student in Eric Dann’s class when announcing his international competition result.

His chamber-music work developed through another conservatory connection. The accordion quartet Musica in Fiore studied with Andreas Nebl and included Ziegler alongside Nils Aebersold, Karla Gvozden, and Juliana Kraus in the school’s 2024 report.

A workshop account published in March 2026 continued to describe him as a Hohner Conservatory student. These sources support his educational path, although they do not establish a completed degree or graduation date.

International Recognition With Musica in Fiore

The year 2024 brought documented international results in both ensemble and solo performance.

At the International Accordion Festival in Prague, held October 24–27, Musica in Fiore won first prize in chamber music. The German Harmonica Association reported a score of 24.63 out of 25.

Its account named Ziegler, Juliana Kraus, Nils Aebersold, and Karla Gvozden-Rizvic, together with guest percussionist Arman Rizvic. The result added an international chamber-music achievement to Ziegler’s earlier youth competition record.

Another success followed at the Trophée Mondial competition in Montargis, France, during November 25–30. Hohner Conservatory reported that Musica in Fiore received second prize in chamber music.

Ziegler also earned an individual third prize. The conservatory described his category as “Senior virtuoso,” while Accordions Worldwide called it “Senior Variété.” Both reports agree on the third-place result.

These achievements show two parallel strands of his career: developing a solo program and working within an ensemble. The quartet’s awards belong to the participating musicians collectively, while the individual placing recognizes his separate solo performance.

Michael Ziegler’s Music as Ziggi Accordion

Under the Ziggi Accordion name, Ziegler describes his approach as minimal music built around the accordion. Pop, classical influences, and original compositions form the foundation of the project.

A loop station is an important part of that approach. It allows musical phrases to repeat while additional parts build above them, creating layered arrangements during a performance.

His official biography also emphasizes playing without those effects, using the instrument’s natural sound and bellows. His listed original works include “Home Again,” “Memories,” and “Zeitlos Rhapsodie.”

The project reached a recording milestone with Zeitlos, which his official album page dates to April 19, 2026. The 13-track debut uses looping and spacious reverberation, drawing on minimal music, modern ethno influences, jazz, and pop.

The album page identifies “Atmen” as its first single and offers the recording digitally and on physical CD. Its release gave listeners a recorded introduction to the sound he had been developing through concerts and composition.

Although his public presentation has evolved, the central idea connects with his 2020 concert: presenting the accordion through a broad musical program.

Teaching Alongside Performing

Education has become another documented part of Ziegler’s work. His official teaching page offers individual online accordion lessons, with material ranging from pop and film music to classical and traditional repertoire.

A more detailed example appeared in a March 16, 2026 report about the “Play it like Ziggi” workshop. Organized through the Brackenheim accordion orchestra and the Lower Neckar district of the German Harmonica Association, it brought together players from several communities.

Ziegler led participants through modern pop arrangements, including music associated with Apache 207, Faithless, and Miley Cyrus. Some arrangements were his own.

The organizers described this as his first time teaching a project orchestra. Younger participants also joined the larger ensemble, gaining experience playing with multiple parts, percussion, and a conductor.

He concluded with a solo presentation combining pop songs, accordion repertoire, original compositions, and experiments with looping and bellows sounds. The event connected his performance style directly with practical instruction.

Family Life, Age, and Financial Information

The March 2026 workshop report described Ziegler as 24. His exact birth date is not publicly verified in the reliable sources reviewed, so that dated age should not be treated as a permanently current figure.

Those sources do not establish the identities of his parents or siblings, or confirm a spouse, partner, or children.

His public professional activities include performances, teaching, workshops, and recorded music. However, no credible public net-worth estimate, salary figure, or detailed financial disclosure was identified. Offering lessons and selling recordings does not establish how much he earns.

Recent Performances and the Next Announced Stage

Ziegler continued appearing in established accordion settings during 2026. A July 23 report in Harmonika International, covering that year’s Easter working week in Trossingen, identified him as the soloist in an arrangement of Albéniz’s Asturias.

He performed with the combined conservatory seminar orchestra and Hohner Accordion Orchestra under Johannes Baumann. The report documents another appearance alongside his developing solo recording project.

Looking ahead, the published Akkordeonale 2027 program names Michael Ziegler, also identified as Ziggi Accordion, among its participating artists. The festival describes his contribution through pop, film music, original compositions, and improvisation.

As of October 2026, that is an announced engagement for the following year, rather than a completed performance.

Ziegler’s next chapter will unfold across those different settings: the solo stage, collaborative performances, and teaching. His progress so far shows how closely those activities connect, with techniques developed in performance becoming material he can record, rearrange, and share with other players.
