Zimbio Com: The History Behind the Entertainment Website

Zimbio com built its name around celebrity photographs, entertainment stories, and pop culture. Its history stretches back to 2006, when Tony Mamone and Danny Khatib founded the business that eventually became Livingly Media.

However, readers visiting the website today should understand an important distinction. The current site identifies a different operator and describes itself as independent of the companies behind Zimbio’s earlier publishing business. Understanding that difference helps explain both the brand’s history and its present appearance.

How Zimbio Began

Zimbio emerged as an online media business during the growth of digital entertainment publishing. Mamone and Khatib founded the company in 2006, establishing the business behind the celebrity-focused website.

The current website’s historical account places its public launch in May 2006. Independent transaction documentation from 2015 also confirms the founders and founding year, supporting the central details of its origin.

Zimbio’s original identity centered on entertainment. Celebrity coverage sat alongside material about films, television, and music, giving readers several routes into the same broad subject: popular culture.

The company later operated from Silicon Valley with an additional New York office. Those locations appear in contemporary acquisition documentation, rather than serving as confirmation of the current website operator’s offices.

Celebrity Coverage and Mobile Recognition

Zimbio’s historical appeal combined entertainment articles with visual content. Celebrity photographs and coverage of familiar performers formed a recognizable part of the publication.

Its mobile website received a specific industry honor in 2013. The Web Marketing Association named Zimbio the winner of its Best Entertainment Mobile Website Mobile WebAward.

The award entry described coverage spanning celebrities, movies, television, and music. It also credited an editorial and technical team, including editor in chief John Newlin, design director Jorge Reyna, and development director Cleve Pasarell.

That record provides a useful snapshot of the organization during its established entertainment publishing years. Zimbio had people responsible for reporting and presentation, alongside the technology supporting its content.

The entry also cited substantial mobile readership using Quantcast figures. Those numbers belong to the period described in the award submission and should not be presented as measurements of the website’s audience today.

Why the Company Became Livingly Media

The business eventually expanded beyond its original entertainment publication. StyleBistro covered fashion and beauty, while the acquisition of Lonny added home design to the portfolio.

Business of Home reported the Lonny acquisition on July 18, 2012. The deal included the publication’s website, back issues, and an archive containing thousands of original photographs.

Lonny’s founding editorial leaders, Michelle Adams and Patrick Cline, initially remained involved. The announced plans included improving access to earlier issues, developing a searchable image collection, and reaching readers across additional devices.

This expansion helps explain the company’s change of name. In August 2012, Zimbio, Inc. became Livingly Media, giving the parent business an identity broad enough to cover several lifestyle publications.

The distinction matters: Livingly Media was the company, while Zimbio remained one of its publishing brands. A reference to Livingly’s entire audience or business therefore does not automatically describe Zimbio alone.

The Aufeminin Acquisition and Later Ownership Changes

In February 2015, Aufeminin announced an agreement to acquire all of Livingly Media. Transaction adviser Kroll documented an initial purchase price of $25 million, plus an additional payment arrangement tied to earnings performance.

The transaction covered a business operating Zimbio, StyleBistro, and Lonny. It was not a disclosed $25 million purchase of Zimbio alone.

At the time, the acquisition announcement described Livingly as having 65 employees. Its business strategy included reaching readers through mobile devices, desktop computers, and social platforms, while selling advertising and sponsorships.

The ownership sequence also requires careful dating. Aufeminin acquired Livingly in 2015; TF1 acquired Aufeminin in 2018. Describing TF1 as Aufeminin’s owner at the time of the 2015 transaction would compress two separate events incorrectly.

Another documented change followed on February 2, 2022. Recurrent Ventures announced that it had acquired Livingly Media from TF1.

Recurrent’s announcement placed Zimbio, StyleBistro, and Livingly in its Lifestyle division. Lonny joined its Home and Culinary division, alongside other home-focused publishing operations.

Who Operates Zimbio Com Today?

As checked on October 25, 2026, the website’s About Us page names ZetRank Media as its owner and operator. The page also states that the present operation has no business, editorial, or operational affiliation with Livingly Media, Aufeminin, TF1, or Recurrent.

That statement should receive clear attribution. It is the current website’s account of its operating identity, while Recurrent’s 2022 acquisition announcement documents an earlier corporate transaction.

The sources reviewed do not establish the precise date or full terms of the later transition to the stated current operator. They also do not independently establish which historical assets, archives, or rights accompanied that transition.

Consequently, the original founders should not automatically be described as managing the website today. The documented history of their company and the current operator’s claims need to remain separate.

The current About Us page additionally says that social media accounts created during previous ownership are outside its control. Readers should therefore check account ownership rather than assuming every older Zimbio profile represents the present publisher.

What the Website Publishes Now

The current homepage presents a wider subject mix than Zimbio’s historical entertainment identity. Its navigation includes business, technology, home improvement, fashion, lifestyle, law, and entertainment.

Recent homepage listings cover subjects such as concrete grinders, electric winches, office organization, and clothing for a Pakistani winter wedding in the United Kingdom. Entertainment remains visible, including a feature about actor Kirk Douglas.

These examples show what appeared on the site when checked. They do not establish that the earlier editorial staff, publishing standards, or photographic archive continue under the present operation.

For someone searching the name after remembering its celebrity coverage, this broader selection explains why the website may look different from expectations. Its current presentation extends well beyond Hollywood and pop culture.

Readers researching an older Zimbio article should pay particular attention to its publication date, author, and availability. A familiar domain name alone does not confirm that an earlier article remains accessible or unchanged.

Business Value, Revenue, and the Limits of Public Figures

The clearest financial figure in the reviewed record is the initial $25 million price announced for Livingly Media in 2015. That figure describes a historical company acquisition involving several publications.

It does not establish Zimbio’s standalone value, the founders’ personal wealth, or the value of the current website. The additional earnings-based payment arrangement also means the initial price should not automatically be treated as the complete final consideration.

Advertising and sponsorships formed part of Livingly’s documented commercial strategy. However, that historical business model does not provide a verified breakdown of the current operator’s income.

The current website’s revenue, profit, and standalone valuation are not publicly verified in the sources reviewed.

Zimbio’s history is most useful when its different periods remain clearly dated. Contemporary acquisition records explain the original publishing business, while the present website describes a separate operating identity. Keeping those records distinct gives readers a more accurate understanding of the name they recognize.
